was attended by around 40 media representatives.
Flashing his
trademark smile, Archuleta, who will turn 19 in December, was clad in
an apple green baju Melayu, complete with songket and sampin.
He looked dashing in the Malay traditional attire and answered all questions from reporters.
Asked how he felt about donning the baju Melayu, Archuleta said he was proud and honoured to wear it.
"I feel very comfortable actually. It's really flowy and soft to the touch.
"I hope I get to bring them back home," he said.
Archuleta, who is from Murray, Utah, captured the hearts of many after
performing several shows on American Idol last year.
After
losing out to rocker David Cook in the finals, Archuleta signed a deal
with Jive Records, which is also home to Britney Spears and Justin
Timberlake.
He released his self-titled debut album in November last year.
Archuleta follows the footsteps of American Idol alumni Elliot Yamin
and Chris Daughtry, who made Kuala Lumpur their Asian stop to promote
their albums.
He is in town as part of a tour to promote his self-titled debut album, which is making its way to Gold status in Malaysia.
His hit singles, Crush and A Little Too Not Over You, have already exceeded 100,000 digital downloads.
This is Archuleta's first visit to our shores and Malaysia is one of
the two countries to host him for his Asian promotional tour.
The highlight of the four-day tour is the "by-invitation-only" showcase
at 3pm today at the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park Ampitheatre.
Tickets for the showcase were distributed through sales of his album and were snapped up almost immediately.
Organised by Sony Music with DiGi as the main partner, "David Archuleta
Live in KL" is the only public performance by Archuleta in Malaysia.
He will be performing four tracks from his album.
Opening
for him will be 8TV's One in a Million finalist Alif Satar, 8TV's
Malaysian Idol (Season 2) champion Daniel Lee and Astro Talent Quest
second runner-up Hou Ren.
Earlier, Archuleta visited Sri KDU, the school which won a contest organised by Sony Music and Hitz.FM.
Sri
KDU was selected based on the highest number of points received for
answering the most number of questions about Archuleta correctly.
